Crete Seaside Hotel

Overlooking the Aegean on the island of Crete, this luxury hotel was designed and developed from the ground up by Længsel, furnished throughout with the brand's own collection. From architecture to interior design, every space was conceived as a seamless whole, where the serenity of Nordic design meets the warm, sun-bleached palette of the Mediterranean, textured plaster walls, natural stone, oak floors and the ever-present light of the Greek coast. In the guest suites, the Terskel Bench takes its place at the foot of the bed. Its name is fitting: "terskel" is the Danish word for threshold, that quiet moment of passage into a space of rest, and the piece embodies exactly that sense of arrival. Its architectural silhouette is built from rhythmic wooden slats, the brand's signature language, where a dark, blackened frame is crossed by lighter birch slats in a precise interplay of solids and voids. Topped with a cushion in a warm ochre bouclé, it brings a note of comfort and colour to the pared-back calm of the room, and reveals, on closer inspection, the craftsmanship and honest materiality that define every Længsel piece. Across the hotel, the Terskel appears in several distinct versions of the same design, a quiet demonstration of the brand's bespoke approach: some open and purely sculptural, others fitted with a hinged door in the left compartment, upholstered in Kvadrat fabric, offering discreet storage without ever breaking the purity of the form. Crafted in sustainable birch with non-toxic finishes and finished by hand, each piece is as at home at the foot of a bed as it is in an entrance hall. Set against the raw texture of stone and the openness of the sea beyond, the Terskel captures the essence of this project: a place where Scandinavian craft and Mediterranean light come together to make a true retreat.
